Reading the Map: Actors, Motives, and Trajectories in Czech Foreign Policy

The return of the ANO movement to government at the end of 2025 –this time in coalition with Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) and Motorists for Themselves – raised a number of questions among Czechia’s international partners and allies. Concerns centered primarily on the country’s future stance on Ukraine, its role in the European Union, and the fulfillment of its NATO commitments. Although the new government declared a sharp break with the policies of the previous cabinet, reality presents a more nuanced picture. The first year in office reveals a blend of substantive and rhetorical shifts alongside continuity with the preceding period.
