Profile

Iva Merheim-Eyre (born Svobodová) is an AMO Research Fellow. Her professional focus is in the field of democracy support, migration and sustainable development challenges. Her work is largely geographically focused on countries of the Western Balkans.

She graduated in Law at the Charles University, Faculty of Law, and Political Science with specialisation in Democratisation and Human Rights at the Masaryk University, Faculty of Social Studies. Between 2013 and 2014 she completed non-degree study stays at University of Tartu in Estonia and Tbilisi State University in Georgia.

Currently, Iva holds a position of the Regional Director for Europe at the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC), a group of over 250 lawmakers promoting democracy, economic security and  harmonizing policies towards China. Previously, she served as the EU Liaison at the International Republican Institute in Brussels.

Since 2019, she has been supporting SMARTER4EU, an EU-funded project active in over 20 countries, where she leads affordable green housing activities with a current focus on Ukraine’s recovery. Her past experiences include missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina with UNDP and People in Need, as well as traineeships at the European Commission and the Czech Representation to the United Nations in Geneva.
