Profile

Ivana Karásková leads the China Team at AMO. She is the founder and lead of the projects MapInfluenCE, China Observers in Central and Eastern Europe (CHOICE), and Women Insight on China (WiCH).

In 2023–2024, she served as Special Adviser to the Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Values and Transparency, where she contributed to the preparation of the Defense of Democracy package.


In addition to her work at AMO, she is a Senior Researcher at the Supply Chain Resilience Center (SCRC) at Charles University, and a European China Policy Fellow at MERICS in Berlin. She also serves as the Czech representative in the China expert pool at the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats (Hybrid CoE) in Helsinki.


Her research focuses on Chinese foreign and security policy, EU–China relations, CEE-China relations, China’s influence in Europe, and issues of propaganda and disinformation. She holds a PhD and PhDr in International Relations from the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University, as well as additional degrees in Mass Communication and Journalism and European Studies.


She has completed academic and research fellowships in China (Fudan University, East China Normal University) and Taiwan (National Chengchi University, Tamkang University). She was a Fulbright Scholar at Weatherhead East Asian Institute at Columbia University in New York.


Ivana has briefed the European Parliament on multiple occasions and has testified before the U.S. Congress, as well as in the German, Belgian, and Canadian parliaments. She co-authored a book on Sino-Russian relations. Her work has been cited by major international outlets including The New York Times, Politico, BBC, Al Jazeera, Le Monde, Deutsche Welle, Financial Times, and South China Morning Post, among others.
