About the project
The project responded to the impact of the war on Ukrainian regional media, which faced the departure of journalists to the front, declining advertising revenues, and the withdrawal of donors. Its aim was to improve the quality of regional media content by training young and future journalists in topics important both during the war and for post-war recovery.
Particular attention was paid to investigative journalism on corruption, high-quality reporting on the EU, constructive journalism, marketing, and monetization. Participants took part in intensive courses and a series of seminars led by leading Ukrainian and Czech lecturers, with an emphasis on learning by doing and on transferring new knowledge into both academic and journalistic practice.
The project involved 16 journalism departments from universities across Ukraine. An important component was also the strengthening of cooperation between regional media, journalism students, and universities, including through 10 joint minigrants. The project also addressed the use of AI in both journalistic and academic practice, including research conducted at participating universities and the development of recommendations. It was implemented in 2024–2025 and supported by the Transition Promotion Program of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
