Women Insight on China (WiCH)

About the project

Despite growing interest in China and its global role, women experts in China studies in Europe remain underrepresented. They face limited participation in expert events and few opportunities to engage in research and policy discussions. This diminishes comprehensive understanding of China and restricts diversity of perspectives in expert and public debates.

The Women Insight on China (WiCH) initiative seeks to address this issue. The project creates a Europe-wide community of women in China studies, provides mentorship, amplifies women’s voices, and strengthens gender diversity in analytical and policy discussions on China. WiCH connects women experts through mentorship programs, workshops, online and in-person events, and supports collaborative research projects, articles, and policy briefs.

The project focuses on four key areas: promoting gender diversity in China studies, building a collaborative research community, providing mentorship and professional development for early-career analysts, and highlighting women’s voices in expert and public debates on China. WiCH also plans lecture and webinar series featuring prominent women analysts, policymakers, and academics sharing their expertise.

WiCH was founded and is coordinated by the Association for International Affairs (AMO) with support from the China Observers in Central and Eastern Europe (CHOICE) platform, which provides access to an established network of China experts across Europe. WiCH seeks collaboration with global networks, think tanks, and academic institutions to expand its impact.

The project is flexible in duration and was launched without dedicated funding, with opportunities to obtain partner support, expertise, and resources for future development, including small grants to support innovative research by women in China studies.
