Women’s experience in diplomacy: Members of the Network of Women met with Dana Kovaříková, Director of the Diplomatic Academy of the Czech MFA
At the beginning of November this year, the new Diplomatic Academy of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs was inaugurated. The goal of the Academy – now working as an independent contributory organisation of the Ministry – is to respond to the changes that the work of diplomats has brought in recent years. What new challenges do diplomats face today? And what obstacles do women face in (Czech) diplomacy?
These and other questions were discussed by members of the Network of Women in Czech Foreign, European and Security Policy with the director of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dana Kovaříková. The meeting, traditionally held at the residence of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Prague, was also attended by several foreign women ambassadors.
At the meeting, Dana Kovaříková spoke about the mission and goals of the new Academy. The topic of representation of Czech men and women in EU institutions was also addressed. Furthermore, the issue of under-representation of women in external relations and possible solutions to this problem were discussed. The ambassadors shared examples of good practice from their countries and their personal experiences as women diplomats.
