Profile

Alexander Petrashov is an intern at AMO.

He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Russian and Eurasian Studies at Leiden University, focusing on politics and history of the post-Soviet space. Before coming to Leiden, he completed a Master’s degree in Economics at Kiel University and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg. During his studies he also spent two semesters abroad at the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) in Poland. 

Alongside his academic work, Alexander gained practical experience during an internship at the Warsaw office of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), where he worked on political analysis, media monitoring, and the preparation and organization of events related to developments in Central and Eastern Europe. He has also been involved in humanitarian support initiatives connected to Russia’s war against Ukraine, volunteering with the German Red Cross and local refugee aid initiatives in Kiel, where he supported assistance efforts for displaced people, including translation and interpreting. 

His research interests focus on Ukraine, Eastern Europe, and Russia, as well as the broader Eurasian space. In particular, he focuses on the historical and geopolitical connections between Europe and Russia’s Asian regions, including the Russian Far East, and the role these regions play in Russia’s relations with East Asia.
