About the project
In 2018, a permanent platform focused on cooperation among think tanks in the energy sector was established. Its goal is not only to strengthen cooperation among think tanks from the Visegrád Group countries, but also to promote dialogue between the academic sector and decision-makers.
The main initiator and coordinator of the platform is the Hungarian REKK Foundation (REKK Foundation for Regional Policy Co-operation in Energy and Infrastructure). Other partners include SFPA (Slovak Foreign Policy Association), the Polish Jagiellonian Institute, and AMO (Association for International Affairs). The project is supported by the International Visegrad Fund.
The platform’s pilot project in 2018 was the research project “Beyond Gas – Energy Security Issues in the V4 after 2020,” which aimed to develop an initial assessment of a new concept of supply security and its application to the V4 region in the post-2020 period.
During its first year in 2018, the V4ETTP platform focused primarily on the current situation and future of the European and Central European electricity and gas markets. The second year then dealt mainly with changes in the electricity market and the growing demand for its flexibility.
The current edition of V4ETTP focuses on the topic of the green transition and the challenges and opportunities that decarbonization brings in terms of the economic development of the V4 countries. This issue is particularly relevant in light of the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
