AMO launches new project ChinfluenCE, mapping Chinese political and economic influence in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia
We launches new international project ChinfluenCE, mapping Chiese influence in the Central Europe.
The region of Central Europe has recently become increasingly attractive to Chinese investors, often with direct links to the Chinese state. Data-based information and knowledge regarding current developments in bilateral relations of the Central European countries with China is, however, severely limited.
ChinfluenCE analyzes China’s image and its perception in Central Europe through media content analysis. Subsequently, it identifies key agenda-setters who shape the discourse, and subjects them to social network analysis in order to map their views of China, clarify their motivations and, through social network analysis, study the links among them. It then looks into how China influences the discourse and what strategy it uses in the region.
Results of the Czech media content analysis, including infographics, are available on the project’s website in Czech and English. Within next several weeks, we will add results of the Slovak and Hungarian media analyses, a series of articles on Czech, Slovak and Hungarian agenda-setters and policy papers. If you are interested in receiving the latest news, please subscribe to the ChinfluenCE newsletter.
ChinfluenCE is implemented by AMO in cooperation with the Institute of Asian Studies (SK), the Central and Eastern European Center for Asian Studies (HU) and with generous support of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
