Helsinki Process, Velvet Revolution of 1989 and the Czech Transformation: Lessons for Korean Peninsula?
AMO Research Fellow Michal Vodrážka contributed a chapter (On the Importance of Building (and Planning) Bridges, pp. 83) to an edited volume called Helsinki Process, Velvet Revolution of 1989 and the Czech Transformation: Lessons for Korean Peninsula? published by CEVRO Institute with support from the Korea Foundation. The chapter looks for similarities between 1980s Czechoslovakia and contemporary North Korea, describes some relevant aspects of Czech economic transition, and points out that crucial transportation and energy infrastructure upgrades should be planned well ahead and ideally constructed before the unification takes place.
