Members of the Women’s Network Discussed Gender Differences in Security Perception with Sarah Komasová
How do women’s and men’s perceptions of security differ in the Czech Republic? Why do men hold stronger opinions regarding security, while women are not as interested in such issues? And what are the systemic and cultural causes of these differences?
We discussed these and other questions with Sarah Komasová. She is an analyst at STEM and also works at the Faculty of Transportation of the Czech Technical University (ČVUT) and the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University.
Among other things, we discussed how Czech women’s more vulnerable position compared to men’s may lead to a greater sense of vulnerability. In addition, we also discussed women’s willingness to participate in national defense and compared this with other countries. Last but not least, we clarified how methodology can skew the results of similar studies.
