Serbia: Fertile Ground for Foreign Propaganda Influence
The thesis that Serbia is indeed fertile ground for the operation—and even very successful multiplication and expansion—of foreign influence through propaganda, disinformation campaigns, and the spreading of fake news in these turbulent geopolitical times is justified. This is clearly evident when we map foreign influence in our media space, and this can be seen just in the past two and a half years, since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine on February 24, 2024.
Almost all national frequencies, which are owned by all citizens of this country, funded by the country’s budget, and for which citizens pay a subscription, are the main channel for (pro)Russian propaganda in our country. Specifically, nearly all of them are being misused for the propaganda of a foreign country. This represents a unique feature of Serbia in comparison to other European countries, with the exception of Belarus. National frequencies are immeasurably more effective in what they do than any Russian state media operating in our region.
