Live stream from the conference Future of the Transatlantic Bond
Look at the live stream from the international conference Future of the Transatlantic Bond, which took place on Thursday 13th of September at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Czernin Palace. The conference was divided into an introductory speech and three panels discussing the future of Czech-American relations.
The conference was launched by opening remarks of the US Ambassador Stephen King, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Christoph Israng, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tomas Petricek and AMO Director Vlaďka Mušálková.
The first panel, attended by, for example,Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council Ian Brzezinski or MEP Miroslav Poche focused on the quality of political relations and the question of what can now be done to strengthen them. Other participants were Deputy Minister of Defense Jakub Landovský or Chairman of the Committee on European Affairs and member of the Chamber of Deputies Ondřej Benešík. The non-governmental sector was represented by head of the Alfred von Oppenheim Center for European Policy, Jana Puglierin. DownloadThe second panel was about another important pillar of transatlantic relations which is the security cooperation. Former NATODeputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow, Former Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Petr Pavel, Senior Fellow at Kiel University Rainer Meyer zum Felde, or Dean of the College of International and Security Studies and a member of the European Center for Security Studies George C. Marshall Andrew Michta. Tomáš Pojar, vice-rector of the CEVRO Institute, represented the Czech participants in the debate. You can find the live stream from the second panel here.

DownloadThe economic relations between the European Union and the US, on which the last panel has been concentrated, are perceived today by the threat of a trade war. However, the content of these relationships is much wider and discussed by important business leaders – David Pavlis, president of Javlin, which is successful in the US, and Milan Šlapák, President and CEO of General Electric Czech Republic and Slovakia, one of the largest US investments in the Czech Republic. Donald Trump’s current business policy was addressed by leading American international trade expert Jack Spencer of the American Conservative Heritage Foundation. The third panel was also attended by Milena Jabůrková, Vice-President of the Confederation of Industry and Transport of the Czech Republic, and Weston Stacey, Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in the Czech Republic.
