The tenth year of the annual Czech-German Young Professionals Program (CGYPP) was successfully launched in Berlin!

Fourteen Participants from Germany and the Czech Republic have been invited to participate in the annual series of workshops and to collaborate on relevant economic, political, and social issues. This year’s topic is Bridging the Gaps

The topic of the first CGYPP 2019 – seminar was Social Divides in Europe – and how to overcome them. An introductory round and a discussion about populism with Marcel Lewandowski from the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg opened the program of the first workshop.

On the next day, CGYPP – participants got an opportunity to explore the East-West divide in Germany. They discussed with Max Ostermayer from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation about West and East German perspectives of the EU and visited the Soviet Army Memorial at Treptower Park to learn more about different perceptions of Europe’s past. They could also realize, how the mobile counsel against right-wing extremism works.

The third day of the workshop was dedicated to topics of migration and integration. CGYPP-Participants met with the organizers of the project Über den Tellerrand and went on a guided city tour with a refugee from Iraq. In the evening, they presented and shared their ideas and projects during an internal workshop.

The seminar was concluded by a lecture about social market economy and a public discussion about social justice in the EU at the Czech Centre Berlin.

The second CGYPP 2019 workshop will take place in Prague on June 12th-16th.
