Connecting networks of women in foreign, European and security policy, across the V4 states

Although women constitute half of the population, their participation in the implementation of foreign, European and security policy in the V4 countries is disproportionately lower compared to men. Despite substantial progress in recent decades, the representation of female expert voices is not sufficient and fair.

Contributing to this imbalance are several persistent issues faced by women in all V4 states.

The aim of this project is to strengthen the position of women from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary in the foreign policy sectors, by creating an international network of contacts, exchanging know-how and inspiration from individual countries or by raising awareness of this issue.

In spring 2024, one meeting of experts from all four countries took place in Prague and one Warsaw. They will be followed by meetings in Bratislava (November 2024) and Budapest (January 2025). At these meetings, experts can not only exchange experiences with each other, but also have the opportunity to meet with politicians, government institutions and other relevant organisations.

The experience gained and examples of best practice from all 4 countries will be published in a practical handbook, which will provide practical recommendations for foreign policy makers in the Visegrad Four countries to increase women’s participation in this field. The authors will present the handbook in March 2025 in Prague at an international conference on feminist foreign policy.

This is a continuation of the project that AMO carried out thanks to the support of the International Visegrad Fund in spring 2025. AMO cooperates on this project with organizations from other V4 countries: Casimir Pulaski Foundation (Poland), the Equilibrium Institute (Hungary) and the Research Centre of the Slovak Foreign Policy Association (SFPA, Slovakia).

The project is co-financed by the Governments of the Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia through Visegrad Grants from International Visegrad Fund. The mission of the fund is to advance ideas for sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe.
