Research paper of Jiří Holík is dedicated to the issue of the political regime in Malaysia.
The author tackles the quesion why, in contradiction to the assumptions of the modernization theory, has Malaysia remained a semi-authoritarian system, despite the fact that it underwent a dynamic and successful economic development. As an explanation, the author points to a complicated ethnic situation in the country and an efficient application of restrictive and affirmative measures by the ruling political parties.
