Association for International Affairs, organised on Wednesday 4th November jointly with the Polish Institute in Prague a public debate entitled “Prague and Warsaw – Hand in Hand?” At the beginning delivered his opening speech His Excellency Jan Pastwa, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the Czech Republic. He underlined the importance of the Czech-Polish relations and mentioned not only political, but also economical and cultural links, which intensify gradually. In the debate itself, which was chaired by the AMO analyst Vít Dostál, presented their views Janusz Onyszkiewicz, Eugeniusz Smolar, Piotr Maciej Kaczyński and Luboš Veselý.
Janusz Onyszkiewicz, being the former minister of defence, spoke mainly about the significance of the Czech-Polish cooperation during the opening of the NATO’s doors, whereas Eugeniusz Smolar from the Warsaw’s Centre for International Relations, focused on current challenges which both countries – mainly in the field of the security issues – face. Piotr Kaczyński, who works in the respected Brussels’ think-tank Centre for European Policy Studies, discussed the Brussels view on the Czech-Polish relations and remarked also several shortages which he perceives in this area. Luboš Veselý, the special envoy of the Czech foreign minister for the Czech-Polish relations introduced the activities of the Czech-Polish forum and provided the Czech view on the relations between Prague and Warsaw.
