The enlargement policy of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the foundation of which is laid out in the Article 10 of the Washington Treaty, remains even today a hotly-discussed topic. Though one country has been showing its desire to become a NATO member for more than a decade: Georgia.
The South Caucasian country is already closely cooperating with the Alliance on several missions and moves closer to the fulfillment of the access conditions. Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations and developing relations with NATO are even the country’s top priority.
However, despite the fact that Georgia gradually meets the requirements and shows its western identity, the troubled relations with Russia complicate the whole process. The main point of the negotiations is thus going to be whether and when is the right time for Georgia to join NATO. It is now up to our Ambassadors to decide.
