The President of Georgia attends a conference in Prague

The President of Georgia attended a conference entitled “Eastern Partnership Five Years Later: Time for a New Strategy” within the visit to Prague today. The Head of the State addressed the participants of the forum and spoke about the need to promote relations among the Eastern Partnership nations. In this respect, Giorgi Margvelashvili focused on the significance of the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on April 17th and emphasized that the article N49 offered new opportunities for enhancing cooperation between Europe and the Eastern Partnership countries. The same article also says that the European future of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine is irreversible and the interference of any third party in this process should not be accepted.

The President stated that the Eastern Partnership had encouraged the development of democracy and positive processes during these five years. Giorgi Margvelashvili also spoke about the political and economic significance of the European integration and touched the projects that are supposed to be profitable for the whole region. According to the President, Georgia as the country connecting Eastern Europe and Asia, represents an interesting opportunity for energy corridor and communications, also guarantees energy security and stability.
In his speech, the President of Georgia also spoke about the situation in Ukraine.
 “We are very much concerned about the developments in Ukraine, however, the same processes took place in Georgia six years ago. Unfortunately, the Russian politicians have not been given an effective response that this is not a way of communication with neighbors and that this format cannot be accepted”, Giorgi Margvelashvili said.
The President underlined that the European future was not only a political choice of the country, but a cultural one made by the whole nation.
 “I believe that the road to the European family will be peaceful and profitable as for our country, so for our European partners”, the President said.
The European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy, Stefan Fule addressed the conference too. The commissioner focused on the prospects of the Eastern Partnership and the enlargement of the European family. He reaffirmed that the statement of the European Union was in force and that Georgia and Moldova would sign the Association Agreement in June this year.
Within the conference, the President of Georgia held meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic, Mr. Lubomír Zaorálek. The sides discussed the current bilateral relations and emphasized the need for deepening cooperation in the sphere of economics and tourism.
