Chu Yang is an analyst at AMO, where she specializes in Chinese political discourse and media ecosystems.

She has a decade of experience researching and reporting on China. Before joining AMO, Chu worked as a researcher, analyst, and journalist for various research institutions and major Chinese media outlets, including China Media Project, Aarhus University, MERICS, and Caixin, etc. A researcher-practitioner, she has also pioneered independent media platforms focused on underrepresented voices and civic dialogue, notably co-founding the Cenci Journalism Project – credited by The Economist as China’s most successful civic media initiative.

Chu Yang holds an M.A. in Journalism, Media, and Globalisation from the Erasmus Mundus Journalism Consortium in Aarhus, Denmark and Prague, Czech Republic, specializing in Totalitarianism and Transition. She also received a B.S. in Broadcasting Journalism from E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University.
