About China Team: The AMO China Team analyzes the foreign policy of the People’s Republic of China, publishing both expert and public-focused papers and articles. We provide recommendations for Czech and European governments and policymakers and organize numerous roundtables, conferences, and workshops annually. The team leads international projects such as MapInfluenCE and China Observers in Central and Eastern Europe (CHOICE), and co-participates in the European RESONANT project, supported by EU Horizon.
Our focus includes enhancing the resilience of Czech society, ensuring academic research security, protecting media integrity, and scrutinizing foreign investments related to China’s activities in Europe. The team also operates an advocacy office in Brussels. Analyses by the China Team have appeared in reports for the US Congress and the European Parliament, and have been cited by The New York Times, BBC, Politico, Le Monde, and others.
The team currently has openings for two China analysts: one specializing in economics and the other concentrating on domestic issues within China.
Type of work: full time
Place of work: Prague, Czech Republic (remote may be considered)
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on the domestic policy OR economic strategies of the People’s Republic of China.
- Monitor and evaluate China’s political and social, OR economic developments.
- Produce high-quality reports, policy briefs, and research papers on China-related topics.
- Provide expert advice and recommendations to policymakers, government officials, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other analysts and researchers on joint projects and studies.
- Present research findings at conferences, workshops, and roundtable discussions.
- Engage with media outlets, providing insights and commentary on China-related issues.
- Develop and maintain a network of contacts with experts, academics, and practitioners in the field.
- Support grant writing and fundraising efforts related to China projects.
- Participate in public outreach and educational activities to disseminate research findings.
Requirements:
- Completed university education in China Studies, Area Studies, International Relations, Economics, Political Science and other relevant fields
- Excellent knowledge of English (both written and spoken), knowledge of Czech considered a plus
- For an analyst focused on domestic politics: proficiency in Mandarin Chinese (minimum HSK 4 level)
- Discretion, attention to detail, reliability, and independence
- Willingness to present projects, including traveling abroad
- Availability to start in August/September 2024 (flexible)
- Alignment with AMO’s mission and vision and adherence to AMO’s code of ethics
- Previous experience in an academic or research environment is an advantage
