Iva Sojková is a Research Fellow of AMO and she focuses on external influences on the quality of democracy in Africa.
She holds a BA in Political Science from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, an MA in Politics – African Studies from the University of Hradec Králové, and an MA in African Studies from Dalarna University in Sweden. She is currently completing her PhD studies at the University of Hradec Králové, where her doctoral research focuses on the influence of China on the quality of democracy in Africa. In her research, she is also interested in the issue of illegal mining, particularly in West Africa, its politicization, and human rights and environmental issues related to this sector. As part of her studies, she completed several long-term research and study fellowships in Ghana and Zambia. As a Fulbright grantee, she is currently conducting her research at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C.
In the past, she worked as an analyst at the NGO KohoVolit.eu or as a lecturer at Dalarna University in Sweden. She gained insight into the research environment during her work at the Czech Academy of Sciences. She also completed internships at the European Commission in DG DEVCO and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
