One aspect that has become clear over the past decades is how intimately connected climate change and national security truly are.

This fact is reflected by climate change acting as a multi-faceted threat multiplier – be it in war-thorn states in the wider Middle East or by creating climate-refugees, and opening new testing grounds for military confrontation. Therefore, in order to step up climate action, it is necessary to understand climate change as the active agent within the geopolitical landscape that it truly is, to escape the shortsightedness of framing events as particularities.
