DownloadPART II: Sharing Economy: Are We Ready? The Look from the V4
The digital era has opened brand new possibilities in direct and instant matching of supply and demand in a way that had not been possible in the past. The so-called sharing economy stretches from platforms for car sharing, dinner hosting and provision of accommodation to crowd-funding and real estate market. Can this be a technology bringing about a next wave of economic growth?
The World Economic Forum in Davos has opened a debate of a great relevance also for V4 economies: Can a significant proliferation of car sharing platforms reduce demand for newly manufactured cars? Will people rely on the usage of shared cars or will platforms like Uber or BlaBlaCar bring higher demand for car transportation and thus also greater sales of new cars? But this is not the only sharing-economy-related question important for our region. Can crowdfunding be a viable solution for investing household savings? How are the new platforms changing the situation in the real estate market?
Key issues covered in the panel will be: Is the V4 regulatory framework friendly or hostile to sharing economy? How big is the segment of sharing economy users in the V4 compared to other EU countries? What is the level of protection of V4 consumers on the sharing economy platforms? Can V4 economies profit from the development of sharing economy?
